You cannot fix yourself into liking yourself

Self-improvement starts from one premise: the current version of you is not acceptable. You can improve for ten years on that premise and never once arrive, because every fix confirms it.

Here's what it looked like for me. I work out, so I take the bus home. I'm tired, so I'm on the couch. I buy a soda for energy. I feel guilty. So I plan a harder workout. Every step fixes the last one. Not one step where I'm allowed to be fine.

Care asks a different question. Not what's wrong with me. What's here, and what does it need.
